Asian Sailors on Starbuck Papaya
Despite being born on a tropical island in the equator, I never really ate fruits, except for an occasional piece of apple or watermelon slice and then, perhaps a coconut or two. There was just too many other yummy things to eat, everyone was main-course crazy anyway. And then, there was cake or pie. PIE.
I’ve been missing home lately. The types of fruits that visually reminded me of home. There would be abundant fruit stalls everywhere selling sliced guava with preserved plum powder dressing, pineapple slathered with dark soy sauce and fresh cut chilli peppers… you know, the works.
Last week, I made this papaya boat with banana sailors. It reminded me of home and Moby Dick. I was in love with Merville’s tanned and heavily tattooed character Queequeg. Always wishing to marry a native sailor, Queequeg occupied a lot of my young teenage years. Tired of waiting, I would sail off in search of him myself. It would be pointless, cos’ in the end I would die of heartache, never to see him again.
Anyways, I present to you my own version of Pequod, called Asian Sailors on Starbuck Papaya.
FAIL.
Ok, it’s a lame attempt at a racist joke. It’s loaded with dill weed and Beta Carotene powder, cos’ my eyes were on fire due to extended staring at the computer screen looking at amazing food porn.
Watched Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, really loved the visually captivating lomo-cam feel of the movie and of course there was Bill Murray. Gotta love him. There’s just something about his dead pan, stoic face of his. The theme is pretty similar to Moby Dick too, which makes it all the more endearing. Find the mammal, get revenge and either find or lose your self along the way.
On a geekier note, dill weed is like, so weird tasting. I bought a bunch out of curiosity and it tasted- mm… curious. I don’t like it nor do I feel pukey about it. Dill weed tasted like what I would imagine the green herb in Resident Evil would taste like. It does develop some sort of affinity with bananas. Or maybe just because I have been eating it with bananas a lot lately.
Green herb overload.
