mrp3This is my cat Mr. P. Yes, as you can see,  Mr. P is in a diaper….but not for long.

He gets out of it within minutes. He abhors it. I have no choice but to line the entire couch and his private arm chair with diapers and masking tape. This is primarily the reason why I don’t have people over at my place. It’s an utter cat sty.

My cat Mr. P has been sick lately, peeing everywhere in little trickles. I am running wild cleaning up after him. He’s got the UTI- urinary tract infection AGAIN. They say it’s really common for male cats as their urinal gateway is narrower compared to female cats. Last infection was last year and gagging him with antibiotics was neither a pleasant ordeal for me nor the cat. I was reading up about home remedies and read how apple cider vinegar actually helped heal UTI.

I am afraid Mr. P’s case would be a bit more complicated because the last vet who saw him for constipation gave a full exam + x-ray and still couldn’t determine his illness. The vet just told me that Mr. P had an enlarged bladder. That vet actually wanted to do another exam on Mr. P, saying if he did so he could see get into specifics.

mrp1I have a dumb master, but don’t hate her, she is just dumb, trying her best to get smarter

I was kind of worried for Mr. P but then forking out another $400+ for another test was too much. You know when you smell a rat. Went surfing for reviews on this animal hospital- It seems like another person forked out $1000 on repeated examinations and was like me too, suspicious. Someone went around the neighbourhood asking people if this sort thing ever happened to them with this clinic and was shocked to find out there were many such cases.

This is freaking extortion! I went in novemberish ‘08 and the vet called back a week later and asked me to come back in January ‘09 for the repeat exam course it was expensive. I’ve booked another appointment for Mr. P at another pet hospital next week. Hopefully, they got some integrity. This is the sort of reason why I don’t trust health care professionals.

The pet store nearby had closed down, so I had to walk a few blocks down to the pet store. I went to PetValu and placed an order for a carton of UTI preventive wet food. I also bought a new portable pet taxi, Wellness can food, UTI chewy-soft treats (the only UTI is tuna flavoured :( ) and a new toy. Mr. P is really picky about toys.  Glad he was really excited about this one.kennel

Anti- Odor Spray and Baby Wipes are my best friends these days

I am a horrible cat owner. Thanks to my ignorance, thinking dried kibble is best as the veterinarians recommended it for oral and nutritional health, I fed him Mr. P kibble for over a year. Gah! Only after he’s gotten some disease that I found out reading layman experiential testimonies- kibble is extremely BAD for cats. The dehydrating effects of eating kibble can never be replaced by the amount of water the cat laps. Cats are meant to take their liquids from the food they eat. Kibbles are pet junk food- baked in high temperatures and loaded with unnecessarily fillers like corn, grains, wheat etc.

Cats are also raw meat eaters, they don’t heat up a stove and barbeque their meat. Cooking food produces a lot of toxicity thus domesticated cats on a cooked food diet usually develop liver, bladder failure and degenerative diseases because of the heavy toxic load these organs have to process, leading to premature death. On average, cats can live up to 20 odd years in the wild if they don’t die from injury first but sadly, most domesticated cats live up to 15 years or less.

Isn’t that quite similar to what the Natural Hygiene and raw food movement’s about?  Detoxing and cleansing.

Looks like my cat needs to go raw too. I am thinking of buying a meat grinder and supplements, concocting this raw cat food recipe from scratch, which is ultimately better for Mr. P’s health and cheaper that buying high end grain-free cat food like Wellness in the long run. Wellness has some nice ingredients in its grain-free range though but still cooked.

I shall continue sneaking raw grounded turkey balls in his meals…hehe

Lisa A. Pierson has some great tips on how to get started raw-tifying your cat’s diet.
