Demise of Mr.P and Decline of Raw

pinochanRest in Peace Mr.P

I have been out of it this whole week, trying to make sense what’s going on with my life. I haven’t been successful eating raw mainly because of the stress build up from frustration from inner emotional turmoil over dealing with my cat’s chronic UTI which eventually ended in his abrupt death today. Totally did NOT see that coming. I found myself walking into coffee joints ordering warm soy beverages, Indian tiffin combos at Veda with chocolate coconut truffles, and gorging on Ohagis (sticky rice covered with red bean paste) to fill the void.pinochan2

Cold Cherry Cream Soup

cherrycreamsoup2Now with cherries in season, I have little excuse not to make a cherrybomb pie! Except that these days have been pretty hectic for me with school and a very ill cat. A perfect dish to use up those blood red cherries fast and easy is Ingrid’s Cold Cherry Soup with Fresh Mint on RawEpicurean.

I made this for lunch today but had to make some compromises as raw cashews was a bit out of the way, so I had to make almond cream instead of cashew cream. I imagine cashew cream would have a much silkier consistency compared to almond. Mint topping was another thing I had to compromise as I couldn’t wait any longer to try this. It was really rich, satisfying, nutty and fruity blend. Yum!

Warm Thank Yous & Sweet Lemonades

mspieredone04I wanna say a big thank you to Earthmother for featuring my Raw Mini Mango Berry Pies on her blog In The Raw’s Feast For The Eyes. She made it for her birthday and enjoyed it. I am very honoured and became one happy baby ^w^ all over again. Thank you Earthmother! *hugs* In the Raw is one of the first few raw blogs that I have started following, it features delicious raw foods and up-to-date news of the raw community. Spectacular resource for raw.

mango-peppersaladThe title is pretty much self explainatory:

salad-avocado, peach, tomato and greens

yellow sauce- 2 yellow and ripe mangoes and 1 yellow bell pepper blended with added salt and pepper

Amazing Stuff! I am falling in love with raw food all over again. I had this twice this week, varying bell pepper with celery. This salad is tasty and really hydrating. Instant love~!

The cause of climate crisis lies with the its external focus bring about false solutions such as introducing nuclear power and biofuels which are ironically non-sustainable instead of focusing on correcting internal problematics of consumption behaviour and flawed ideologies.

Since the industrial revolution, people have related progress with production and consumption, leading to an increment of fossil fuel usage to supply demands, destroying earth at an alarming rate regardless of the rights of other species and the welfare of future generations to come. Vandana Shiva, author of Soil Not Oil- Environmental Justice in an Age of Climate Crisis, believes that what it means ‘to be developed is to be industrialized’ within this fossil fuel paradigm . (Alternatives Journal, Pg 23) The consumption of fossil fuel parallels to the held idea of modernity equating to prosperity. Here, Shiva reinterprets the idea of ‘the developed’ in a reversal:

Kitchen Appliances Wish List

dehydrator1.  L’equip 528 Dehydrator- computer controlled with 6 trays, complete with a 12 year warranty $139.99

Hurrah! Veg.ca has an excellent lists of Living Foods preparation resources catering to Canadians! I was in search for a good dehydrator and was disappointed that the dehydrators on Amazon.com did not ship to Canada and the only one I saw was an unappealing one at Walmart. Now I have so many retailers to choose from!

My Favourite Smoothie & Raw Update

mangoberryorange2This is my favourite breakfast smoothie thus far, a variation from Dr. Graham’s 80/10/10:

Sweet-Tart Delight

3 Extremely Sweet Navel Oranges

2 Ripe Alphonso Mangoes

6-7 Strawberries

Blend, blend, blend!

This is like the yummiest concoction I’ve ever tasted in my life. Deliriously sweet and satisfying.

I am going 100% Raw since it’s summer. I will start on 18th of May and plan to do it all the way till 3rd of July where I will be flying on the plane. Since it is weird to request for a raw meal, I ordered airline vegan fare instead. So I will be breaking fast in the air. Whoopeee!

There’s a big food fight going on between the Macrobiotic and the Raw community over differences in their health disciplines- with the Raw foodists emphasizing on beneficial ‘live’ enzymes and the Japanese derived health system- the Macrobiotics emphasizing on the balance of yin and yang.

Macrobiotics also has roots in Chinese medical science. In Chinese traditional medicine, there are 4 different body types:

TAI YANG (Greater Yang): Large, beefy, red-faced, over-developed upper body, under developed lower body

SHAO YANG (Lesser Yang): Healthy mesomorphic, neither fat nor thin, normal muscle tone

Scrumptious Dinner at King’s Cafe

Raw Update: I am at 70% raw right now, and I plan to stay that way for some time. I don’t want to stress myself up over detox. It should be least of my worries now. My body is telling me to take things slowly.

I had a hearty cooked meal last night with my friend, E at a Chinese Buddhist restaurant huddled in the streets of Kensington Market called King’s Cafe. I came early so I ordered a ruddy red juice cocktail consisting of carrot, beetroot and ginger. The ginger brought a nice zing to an otherwise earthy blend of beetroot and carrot.

Cat Diet and Health

mrp3This is my cat Mr. P. Yes, as you can see,  Mr. P is in a diaper….but not for long.

He gets out of it within minutes. He abhors it. I have no choice but to line the entire couch and his private arm chair with diapers and masking tape. This is primarily the reason why I don’t have people over at my place. It’s an utter cat sty.
