Friday Plant Talk
This is my current garden consisting of lavender, basil, curry and sage. I recently discovered my love for gardening, though I have a lot of experience in virtual planting and harvesting, thanks to early and recent generations of Harvest Moon. Never in my life have I grew anything except for those little bean sprouts in elementary class and helping my grandma water her plants. That’s about it. Cherrybombpie, green thumb? Pffft.
I got the pots free from a florist in Chinatown. It pays to know Chinese. I wasn’t sure of his ethnicity but I tried Mandarin anyways and turns out he’s a Chinese and smittened one ![]()
Curry (the one at far most right) is growing a bit funny. I recently pinched off some to make curry stew gravy for zoodles and since then it’s been growing lop-sided. Maybe it’s being resentful. I talk to my plants everyday, going like, “Hi there beautiful Sage, you look well today. Hi there Lavender, you smell so good. Hi there Curry, you look hot today”, since I heard they grow better if they are sang or talked to. I think the neighbours are starting to think I’m some kind of loony bin.

Gardening is wonderful, everyone should connect with the earth this way. You are off the a great start. I love all the herb you are growing, and how cool you have curry leaves among them. The first time I discovered fresh curry leaves was while I was living in Budapest, Hungary [of all places]. We found a small potted planet for sale at the grocery store and bought it. When you rub the leaves, the aroma of curry is just lovely.
I agree with you, it really does smell like ground curry powder which I think is made up of other herbs and spices as well.
How unusual indeed, of all places Hungary! I was also surprised to find curry amongst the little herb pots, was my very first time working with this herb, but I must say I am starting to fall in love with it.
I’m just discovering all of the plants that we have down stairs. Plants that ive been passing for years have been valuable to my health and I had no clue. Gardening has really become second nature to me.
