The cause of climate crisis lies with the its external focus bring about false solutions such as introducing nuclear power and biofuels which are ironically non-sustainable instead of focusing on correcting internal problematics of consumption behaviour and flawed ideologies.

Since the industrial revolution, people have related progress with production and consumption, leading to an increment of fossil fuel usage to supply demands, destroying earth at an alarming rate regardless of the rights of other species and the welfare of future generations to come. Vandana Shiva, author of Soil Not Oil- Environmental Justice in an Age of Climate Crisis, believes that what it means ‘to be developed is to be industrialized’ within this fossil fuel paradigm . (Alternatives Journal, Pg 23) The consumption of fossil fuel parallels to the held idea of modernity equating to prosperity. Here, Shiva reinterprets the idea of ‘the developed’ in a reversal:

dehydrator1.  L’equip 528 Dehydrator- computer controlled with 6 trays, complete with a 12 year warranty $139.99

Hurrah! Veg.ca has an excellent lists of Living Foods preparation resources catering to Canadians! I was in search for a good dehydrator and was disappointed that the dehydrators on Amazon.com did not ship to Canada and the only one I saw was an unappealing one at Walmart. Now I have so many retailers to choose from!

eggplantsushi2If each nation were to pick one dish as its ambassador, I think Thailand would probably go with Pad Thai, Malaysia- Beef Rendang,  Montreal (ok its a state, but…)- Poutine,  France- flaky crusted pastries (drool!), America- all American Cheese Burger, Germany- Bratwurst, Korea- Bulgogi or Soon doobu Chigae (I can’t decide), China- Handmade Shanghai Noodles and Dumplings and then Japan- it’s either ramen or Sushi. ( This is a very limited list I know, and yes, I am being a foodist) but it is hard to break out of conventional pigeon-holing when my cultural experience in this world is anything but wide.

Friday Plant Talk

balcony21This is my current garden consisting of lavender, basil, curry and sage. I recently discovered my love for gardening, though I have a lot of experience in virtual planting and harvesting, thanks to early and recent generations of Harvest Moon. Never in my life have I grew anything except for those little bean sprouts in elementary class and helping my grandma water her plants. That’s about it. Cherrybombpie, green thumb? Pffft.

I got the pots free from a florist in Chinatown. It pays to know Chinese. I wasn’t sure of his ethnicity but I tried Mandarin anyways and turns out he’s a Chinese and smittened one :)

Considering how the first pie I made was an effing success, I intend to make pie my everyday dessert treat! Maybe that’s tad bit too much but…shouldn’t we all celebrate life a little? I decided to make Wednesday Pie Porn day, where CherryBombPie will feature various kinds of raw pies and if I ever run out of ways to make them, (God forbid) I’ll feature cake-pie hybrids and cakes will have to be my last resort.

Carob Chip Crust

1 cup Raw Almonds

1/4 cup Hemp Seeds

1/3 cup Sesame Seeds

mangoberryorange2This is my favourite breakfast smoothie thus far, a variation from Dr. Graham’s 80/10/10:

Sweet-Tart Delight

3 Extremely Sweet Navel Oranges

2 Ripe Alphonso Mangoes

6-7 Strawberries

Blend, blend, blend!

This is like the yummiest concoction I’ve ever tasted in my life. Deliriously sweet and satisfying.

I am going 100% Raw since it’s summer. I will start on 18th of May and plan to do it all the way till 3rd of July where I will be flying on the plane. Since it is weird to request for a raw meal, I ordered airline vegan fare instead. So I will be breaking fast in the air. Whoopeee!

marinatedballs2

Tried and tested, orange marinated mushroom “meatballs” with absolutely meaty-mouthfeel will rock anyone’s raw world. Have it with zuchinni spaghetti or make sauce from the marinade to go with zoodles (zuchinni noodles).

2 cups Fresh Shitake or Portobello Mushroom (you can mix dried shitake in if you like)
1/3 cup Raw Pecan Nuts
1/2 cup Orange Juice
1/3 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/2 bunch Fresh Basil
1/2 bunch Fresh Sage
1 Tablespoon Raw Agave Nectar
1/3 cup Tamari or Nama Shoyu
5-6 Dried or Fresh Chillis
1/5 teaspoon Black Pepper
1 cup Filtered Water

Blend everything except the mushrooms and pecans in a blender till smooth. Chop mushrooms into chunks, put them in a deep bowl. Pour the blended marinate over the mushrooms, letting them soak for 4-5 hours.

catalopemeCantaloupes may look all gaudy and at most funky in a outlandish sort of way but they really have a pristine lil’ heart. Please don’t judge him by appearance alone,  as you can see he’s quite sensitive and tender inside.

With some alterations that is.

I surgically removed his insides and replaced it with 10 fleshy pitted lychees and a cluster of organic chia seeds.

This is my finest albeit monstrous creation capable of rivaling Shelly’s Frankenstein anytime of the day.Wait… No, any fraction of any minute any day.

ChiaChiaChia

chachachiaBought  a load of this stuff- Organic Black Chia seeds today. I am not too familiar with this touted superfood but it looks like a better off cousin of the sesame seed and it claims to be “Nature’s Richest Natural Source of Omega 3-EFAs and fibre. They come in black and white. Me being me, I went for black.

To quote the back of the package, “Used as an energy food for centuries, Chia has been rediscovered today as a “functional food” (food that promote health and prevent diease). Chia seeds are gluten-free (celiacs rejoyce!) , rich in antioxidants and contain 18 amino acids, three times more iron than spinach, six times more calcium than milk and fifteen times more magnesium than broccoli.”
