Review on Sunza and BioSphere Raw Treats plus the Benefits of Buckwheat
As some of you might know, I don’t own a dehydrator and thus never had the chance of trying an extensive array of raw dehydrated treats. I went down to the health food store to get my cat some cranberry extract when I saw lil’ darlings:
1) Biosphere’s raw chocolate cookies
Ingredients: organic cashews, organic raisins, raw cocoa nibs and organic peppermint
About 8-10 pieces for CAD$4 ++
2) Sunza’s Raw Kale Buckwheat Crackers
Ingredients: Sprouted organic buckwheat, organic brown flax seeds organic kale, organic oregano, organic extra virgin olive oil, Himalayan salt crystals
3 crackers for CAD$3.75
Both are locally handcrafted, therefore they are fresh and taste amazing!
The raw chocolate cookies taste like a crisper version of my chocolate/carob mint bars.
Judging from the ingredients, I would guess these babies are really easy to replicate if you have a dehydrator but it is sure worth the price tag for the time and effort that went into making them. Really delightful.
At the back of the label, Sunza lists the potential health benefits of the grain fruit, buckwheat:
- high quality of rutin (bioflavonoid) not found in other grains or beans
- contains choline (vitamin B compound)
- the only significant source of vitamin P
- enhances immune system
- helps fight free radicals
- supports circulatory system
- effective for poor circulation, high blood pressure, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, etc.
- helps lower cholesterol
- increases absorption of vitamin C
- improve liver functioning
- helps prevent accumulation of body fat
- stimulates the intestines
- slows aging process
Pretty much spells AWESOMENESS.
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

hmmm…I also do not own a dehydrator…and have already over spent my kitchen gadget budget for the summer on a freezer-built in icecream maker. BUT - I would like to try and figure out a way to make those cookies!!! THey look great. Thanks for the info.
You’re welcome Vegancowgirl! Oh yeah an Ice Cream Maker!!! I really wanted one this summer too! I heard of people using a conventional oven to dehydrate stuff, but I think it’s a lot of trouble compared to a dehydrator.
Mmm, I like the sound of buckwheat crackers and I’ve got all the ingredients that you listed. It would be fun to try and recreate these crackers. Regarding dehydrating ~ have you ever tried sun drying cookies, crackers, breads, etc.?
hey Ingrid!
I’ve never tried sun-drying but that sounds like a good alternative! I think I’ll probably try getting a few wick baskets and sun-drying them. Thanks for the hint!
