Scrumptious Dinner at King’s Cafe
Raw Update: I am at 70% raw right now, and I plan to stay that way for some time. I don’t want to stress myself up over detox. It should be least of my worries now. My body is telling me to take things slowly.
I had a hearty cooked meal last night with my friend, E at a Chinese Buddhist restaurant huddled in the streets of Kensington Market called King’s Cafe. I came early so I ordered a ruddy red juice cocktail consisting of carrot, beetroot and ginger. The ginger brought a nice zing to an otherwise earthy blend of beetroot and carrot.
We ordered Tom Yum fried rice, spicy braised eggplant served on a hotplate, medium wonton soup and some dumplings. The Tom Yum fried rice was delightful- tousled with generous chunks of faux ham, pineapple and chopped mixed greens and carrot. The eggplant dish came sizzling hot on a hotplate, along with fake beer strips and corn bits within a stream broccoli garland. The wonton soup was light with a touch of sesame oil. We talked as we ate, about the ongoings of our lives- past, present, future all in one sitting. It was enjoyable. I wished I brought a camera along so that I had some pics to show.
Her poor kid was sick though and did not eat. Hopefully, he’ll recover soon.
